How Oxnard Fought and Won Against a Gas Peaker Plant with Sustainable Energy Solutions

Tesla Megapacks prove to be a reliable substitute for peaker plants.

In the small community of Oxnard, California, a battle was fought and won against a proposed gas peaker plant. Peaker plants are known to emit large amounts of carbon dioxide, causing severe environmental pollution.

The residents of Oxnard, along with community leaders, came together to advocate against the installation of the new fossil fuel-powered peaker plant. They had a better idea: a sustainable energy storage solution that would provide cleaner power without harming the environment.

Tesla stepped in to offer a solution that would satisfy both parties involved. Instead of installing the gas peaker plant, Tesla’s Megapack system was chosen as a sustainable energy storage solution. Arevon, the company responsible for installing the energy storage system, put in place a 400 MWH system made up of 142 Tesla Megapacks.

These Megapacks emulate the services offered by peaker plants, without causing the same negative environmental impact. The Megapacks store energy, which can be discharged during high demand periods and can support the grid during times of potential outages. This generates energy more affordably, efficiently, and sustainably.

This decision by the community of Oxnard and the installation of the Megapack system by Tesla highlights the power of collective action and the impact it can have on shaping a sustainable future.
