Palo Alto, CA – In an effort to boost sales of its Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, Tesla announced it is offering six months of free Supercharging to buyers who purchase using a valid referral link before the end of the year.
The free Supercharging promotion provides substantial savings, as Tesla’s network of over 35,000 Superchargers enables owners to charge their vehicles quickly and easily across North America, Europe, and Asia. Analysts estimate the six months of complimentary charging to be worth approximately $400 to $600.
In addition to the Supercharging offer, buyers who use a referral link will earn the existing Tesla owner who referred them a $325 bonus. They will also receive three months of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software, a $199 value, for free.
Tesla’s latest incentive comes as the automaker aims to deliver 1.8 million vehicles globally in 2023, an ambitious target representing a 60% increase from 2022 levels. The free Supercharging is intended to encourage new buyers and boost year-end sales.
Industry observers view the promotion as a strategic move to spur demand, provide added buyer value from Tesla’s charging network, and reinforce the brand’s leadership in electric mobility. However, it also coincides with Tesla removing a previous $250 cash referral award for all vehicles, illustrating the evolving nature of incentives.
With electric vehicle competition continuing to grow, Tesla hopes features like free Supercharging for Model 3 and Y will persuade buyers to choose its vehicles over rival brands. As more consumers make the switch to electric, incentives that ease the transition remain an important sales driver for Tesla.
