Amazon’s AWS enters the AI race to compete with ChatGPT and Google’s Bard

Amazon Web Services announces new services to support generative AI applications, putting it in direct competition with tech giants like Google and OpenAI.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has recently entered the AI race to compete with the likes of ChatGPT and Google’s Bard. AWS has been investing in AI and machine learning (ML) for the past 25 years, and its ML models are now working on behalf of hundreds of millions of Amazon customers worldwide.

The company has infused AI and ML capabilities into every business unit, removing friction from supply chains, personalizing digital experiences, and making goods and services more accessible and affordable.

AWS has recently announced several new services to support generative AI applications, a subset of machine learning that relies on ultra-large ML models to generate text, images, audio, and synthetic data in response to prompts. One of these services is Amazon Bedrock, which provides easy access to foundation models from leading providers, including AI21, Anthropic, and Stability AI, as well as exclusive access to the Titan family of foundation models developed by AWS.

Another service is the General availability of Amazon EC2 Inf2 instances powered by AWS Inferentia2 chips, which offer the most energy efficiency and the lowest cost for running demanding generative AI inference workloads. AWS has also introduced new Trn1n instances, powered by AWS Trainium chips, to train generative AI models quickly and in a cost-efficient manner. Additionally, AWS has launched Amazon CodeWhisperer, which provides real-time coding assistance to software developers using generative AI under the hood to provide code suggestions.

AWS believes that AI and ML are among the most transformational technologies of our time, capable of tackling some of humanity’s most challenging problems. The company is committed to shaping the future of AI technology, guided by the needs of its customers, toward the most promising, beneficial, and responsible AI applications.

AWS’s entry into the AI race puts it in direct competition with other tech giants like Google and OpenAI, who have already made significant strides in the field of generative AI. However, AWS’s investment in AI and ML over the past 25 years puts it in a strong position to compete with these companies and offer innovative services that benefit customers worldwide.
