Apple Music Classical, the new streaming service for classical music lovers, is finally here. After acquiring Primephonic, a classical music service, in 2021, Apple promised to launch a dedicated app for classical music fans by the end of 2022. However, the app was delayed and only became available on March 28, 2023.
Apple Music Classical aims to provide the ultimate classical music streaming experience, with over 5 million tracks, thousands of exclusive recordings, fully optimized search, high-quality audio, and Spatial Audio support. The app also features expertly curated playlists, insightful composer biographies, and descriptions of thousands of works.
The app is designed to address the specific needs and preferences of classical music listeners, who often face challenges with finding and enjoying their favorite works on other streaming services.
For example, Apple Music Classical allows users to search by composer, work, opus number, conductor, artist, instrument, or nickname, and to browse by popular recordings or editor’s choice. The app also respects the integrity of classical works by playing them in their entirety and not shuffling movements or tracks.
Apple Music Classical is included at no extra cost with nearly all Apple Music subscriptions. The app is available for iPhones running iOS 15.4 or later, with no iPad version available and an Android app coming soon. Apple Music Classical is expected to attract both classical music experts and newcomers, as well as expand the audience for classical music in general.
