Cupertino, CA – Apple held its highly anticipated “Scary Fast” event today, October 30, 2023, where it unveiled a range of new Mac products featuring the company’s new M3 chip.
The M3 chip takes Apple’s silicon to new heights, with up to 32 CPU cores and 64 GPU cores based on TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process. Apple claims the M3 delivers up to 20% faster CPU performance and up to 30% faster GPU performance compared to the previous M2 chip.
“The M3 sets a new bar for silicon performance,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “It makes the Mac stronger and faster than ever before.”
The first Mac to debut with the M3 is the stunning new 24-inch iMac. Featuring a sleek and slim design with slimmer bezels, the new iMac includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, studio-quality mics, and a six-speaker sound system. Apple says it’s the ultimate chip for the ultimate desktop experience.
Apple also unveiled new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M3. With the addition of the M3, the new laptops gain improved performance and battery life. According to Apple, pros can now push their workflows further than before.
Rounding out the hardware announcements, Apple previewed macOS Ventura, the latest version of the Mac operating system. macOS Ventura includes new features like Stage Manager, Continuity Camera, and the Weather app. It will be available later this year.
“With the M3, the new iMac, updated MacBook Pros, and macOS Ventura, we think this is the best Mac lineup ever,” said Cook.
The new products announced today will be available for pre-order starting today on Apple.com, with availability beginning next week.
