Munich, Germany – BMW unveiled its Vision Neue Klasse concept car at the IAA Mobility 2023 show in Munich. The sleek electric vehicle provides a glimpse into BMW’s vision for the future of sustainable mobility.
The Vision Neue Klasse is underpinned by an all-new modular EV platform that BMW says will be highly flexible and efficient. This scalable architecture will allow BMW to produce models with various battery sizes and power outputs. According to BMW, this new platform will deliver major gains in range and performance compared to the automaker’s current EVs.
Powering the Vision Neue Klasse is a 100 kWh battery pack and electric motor targeting over 400 miles of range. BMW also revealed that the concept car features an advanced generation of its eDrive technology, promising more power and improved efficiency.
In terms of styling, the Vision Neue Klasse strikes a balance between BMW’s classic sporty aesthetic and an airy, minimalist look. The smooth flanks are reminiscent of 1960s BMW coupes, while the lack of ornamentation gives it a very contemporary personality. Full-width LED bands in the front and rear emphasize the car’s modernity.
The interior matches the sleek exterior with sustainable materials and the latest tech. Curved displays span the full width of the cabin for both the instrument panel and infotainment system. BMW says the Vision Neue Klasse will feature advanced driver assistance systems to enable safe automated driving.
BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said the Vision Neue Klasse “demonstrates how we are thinking about the future, as well as what inspires and drives us.” The production versions are still a few years out, slated to launch in 2025. But it’s clear BMW is laser-focused on the next era of electric vehicles, using the Vision Neue Klasse to lead the way.
