Beijing, October 30, 2023 – Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), a leading battery solutions provider, has started operations at its new highly automated battery factory located in Guizhou, China. This state-of-the-art facility is capable of producing one battery cell every second thanks to a 95% automation rate, underscoring CATL’s manufacturing efficiency.
The rapid pace doesn’t stop at individual cells. The factory can roll out a complete battery pack every 2.5 minutes, further highlighting CATL’s agile manufacturing capabilities.
The factory was initially launched with an annual capacity of 30 GWh. This is set to double to 60 GWh in the second phase, significantly boosting CATL’s total production capacity which stood at 158.3 GWh as of August – a 54.4% increase compared to the same period last year. With this expansion, CATL is cementing its market leadership and inching closer to a 40% global market share in the battery segment.
Strategically located in the Guian New District, the factory will cater to the growing demand for batteries not just for electric vehicles, but also stationary storage applications. However, details on cell design and chemistry are yet to be revealed.
