Prototype versions of Tesla’s much-anticipated Cybertruck pickup have been popping up across the United States in recent weeks. This suggests the electric automaker is gearing up for initial deliveries of the futuristic truck, though an exact timeline remains unclear.
On Sunday, a Cybertruck outfitted with manufacturer plates was spotted in the parking lot of a Sausalito, California shopping center. The truck was filmed up close from various angles by a passerby, providing a detailed look at the vehicle’s distinct stainless steel body panels, cameras, rear bumper, and more.
Interior shots also offer a glimpse of the Cybertruck’s sparse dashboard. Wiring harnesses can be seen snaking to the front seat, indicating the truck is likely a test vehicle. Panel gaps are visible on the exterior, along with some scuffed plastic on the rear passenger side.
Sightings like this, along with recent photos of Cybertrucks testing on public roads, suggest Tesla is putting prototype trucks through their paces. This could mean the beginning of production is drawing near. However, Tesla has yet to provide specifics on start of manufacturing or official specs.
The Cybertruck was originally announced in 2019 and promised deliveries beginning in 2021. However, production timelines have been pushed back several times. Despite the anticipation among numerous customers for the truck, pricing has yet to be disclosed, but it promises an impressive range of up to 500 miles per charge in its top-tier trims.
For now, the appearance of release candidate Cybertrucks across the country provides hope that initial deliveries are just over the horizon. But only time will tell when these futuristic electric pickups will transition from testing to reality.
