Chevrolet Pauses 2024 Blazer EV Sales to Address Software Issues

Software Woes Force Automaker to Halt New Sales of Electric SUV

Detroit, MI – Chevrolet has temporarily stopped sales and deliveries of its new 2024 Blazer EV electric SUV to fix several software problems impacting vehicles.

The automaker confirmed quality issues with “a limited number of Blazer EV units,” according to Scott Bell, Vice President of Global Chevrolet. While Chevy did not specify the number of vehicles affected, Bell said resolving the problems and ensuring customer satisfaction was the top priority.

Engineers are working to address faults with the infotainment system and public DC fast charging in some cases. Impacted Blazer EV owners should expect to be contacted by dealers to schedule a software update when available.

The news comes after several early Blazer EV reviews reported numerous software glitches. Automotive research firm Edmunds said it experienced 23 separate issues with their test vehicle in under two months. One InsideEVs editor was also stranded after only 28 hours into a planned week-long road trip.

GM responded that “extreme current fluctuations” at some public chargers can trigger false sensor readings and charging reductions. An upcoming fix addressing compatibility should resolve this.

The 2024 Blazer EV launched this past summer as a competitor to vehicles like the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E with a 279 mile range and Rs trim starting at $60,215. Hopes were high after the electric SUV was featured in the recent Barbie movie.

But quality woes have led Chevy to halt new sales until software updates can be performed. While the company did not provide details on when the fix will be ready, it continues working with charging networks to ensure a “seamless experience” for EV customers.
