Elon Musk Road Tests the Cybertruck at Giga Texas

A release candidate refers to a vehicle version that is near-final, having undergone extensive testing and is ready for mass production unless significant issues are identified.

Elon Musk tested a production candidate of the Cybertruck at the vast Giga Texas facility. The Tesla CEO, never one to shy away from showcasing his products, subsequently shared an image of the futuristic-looking truck on Twitter, confidently labeling it Tesla’s “best product ever.”

The Cybertruck prototype appears to be close to the final production design that was first unveiled in 2019. The angular, stainless steel body and distinctive design are still present. Musk said the truck was performing great during testing. This indicates Tesla is making progress on finalizing the truck’s design and engineering ahead of the start of production.

Musk stated that Tesla is on track to begin mass production of the Cybertruck sometime this summer. He expects the company to deliver the first trucks to customers around the end of the third quarter of 2023. This timeline lines up with previous estimates for the start of production.

In the days leading up to Musk’s test drive, Tesla Cybertruck prototypes were seen being transported on roads across multiple states. The sightings indicate the vehicles were being moved to different locations for ongoing testing and evaluation. Additionally, some of the truck spottings are believed to be part of preparations for promotional photo and video production ahead of the official unveiling. Tesla has kept pricing details under wraps so far, with no new information released about the expected cost of the three planned Cybertruck configurations since the original announcement in 2019.

The Cybertruck has faced some challenges during its development. Originally slated to enter production in 2021, the futuristic pickup has been delayed multiple times. Musk has cited the truck’s complex design as well as the need to engineer new manufacturing techniques as reasons for the postponements.

Despite the delays, Musk remains optimistic about the Cybertruck’s chances for success. He has called the truck the “future of transportation” and believes it will “change the world.” The Cybertruck is one of Tesla’s most important products this year as the company aims to expand beyond luxury vehicles. If Musk’s predictions come true, the Cybertruck could disrupt the pickup truck market in the coming years.
