Google has announced its upcoming foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, which is set to be unveiled during the I/O 2023 event. While many details are still under wraps, here’s what we know so far about the phone’s rumored specifications.
Design and Display
The Pixel Fold is expected to feature a sleek, minimalist design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, with a 5.8-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch internal display that unfolds like a book. It will be available in black or white, with a large camera module on the back. Notably, the Pixel Fold will have an IP rating for water resistance, making it more durable than many other foldable phones.
The internal display will feature ultra-thin glass (UTG) for improved durability and scratch resistance. It will support a 120Hz refresh rate, making for smooth scrolling and gaming, while the cover display will have a 90Hz refresh rate and a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.
Features and Performance
Leaked details suggest that the Pixel Fold will be powered by Google’s Tensor G2 chipset, an upgrade from the Tensor G1 used in the Pixel 6 series. This upgrade is expected to improve performance, AI capabilities, and battery efficiency. The phone will also have 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The Pixel Fold will run on Android 13 R, which is optimized for foldable devices. It will include features like split-screen multitasking, app continuity, flex mode, and adaptive UI. Google has promised at least five years of software updates and security patches for the Pixel Fold.
Camera and Battery
The Pixel Fold is rumored to have a triple-camera setup on the back, including a 64MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. However, the official design release has not confirmed this. The cameras are expected to offer Google’s signature image quality and features like Night Sight, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, HDR+, and more.
The phone will also have two selfie cameras, one on the cover display and one on the internal display, both with 10MP sensors. They can capture selfies and video calls in different modes. The Pixel Fold will have a 4,500mAh battery that supports fast charging and wireless charging.
Price and Availability
The Pixel Fold is expected to launch at a starting price of $1,800 in the US, putting it among the most expensive phones on the market. Pre-orders are rumored to begin on May 10th on the Google Store and other retailers, with shipping set to start in June in select markets. We will have to wait until May 10th to see how these rumors stack up against the official specifications.
