Mountain View, CA – Google has released a teaser video previewing the upcoming Pixel Watch 2, which is set to be officially announced on October 4, 2023.
The video provides a close look at the design of the Pixel Watch 2, revealing that it looks nearly identical to the original Pixel Watch that launched in 2022. The watch face is round with a distinctive domed glass top and features a digital crown on the right side.
The one noticeable change is an improved IP68 dust and water resistance rating, meaning the Pixel Watch 2 will be more durable and capable of withstanding exposure to dust and submersion in water.
Under the hood, Google confirmed the Pixel Watch 2 will be powered by the new Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor, which Qualcomm claims is 30% faster and 20% more power efficient compared to the previous generation Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip used in the first Pixel Watch.
Other rumored specs include a 1.2-inch always-on AMOLED display, 32GB of internal storage, a heart rate sensor, and support for Google Assistant, Google Pay, and the latest Wear OS 3 software.
The Pixel Watch 2 will be fully unveiled at Google’s hardware event on October 4, 2023, alongside the brand new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Pre-orders for the Pixel Watch 2 are expected to go live the same day.
While full details remain scarce, the teaser indicates Google’s next smartwatch will bring under-the-hood improvements while retaining the comfortable, minimalist aesthetic of the original Pixel Watch. The October launch will reveal if the Pixel Watch 2 has what it takes to be a more formidable Apple Watch competitor.
