Following our recent discussion on BMW’s version of the future of electro mobility, we now turn our gaze to Mercedes-Benz’s interpretation. At the IAA Mobility 2023 held in Munich, Germany, the brand unveiled its stunning Concept CLA-Class, serving as an electrifying prelude to what the future holds for the CLA-Class line-up.
Based on Mercedes’ Modular Architecture (MMA) platform designed specifically for electric vehicles, the Concept CLA-Class brings together progressive design, luxury, and advanced technology. At its heart is a powerful rear-mounted electric motor producing 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes estimates a driving range of over 466 miles from the 75 kWh battery.
The Concept CLA-Class features a sweeping, aerodynamic profile with clean lines and short overhangs. The interior is both spacious and minimalist, with sustainable materials like recycled leather and open-pore wood trims. The focal point is Mercedes’ next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen – a curved glass display spanning the entire dashboard.
“With the Concept CLA-Class, we offer a sneak peek at the future of our entry-level EV models,” said Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius. “It’s progressive, efficient and luxurious in equal measure – a true Mercedes-Benz.”
The production CLA-Class is expected to launch in 2024 as Mercedes’ most affordable EV yet. It promises to bring electrification, cutting-edge technology and the brand’s renowned driving dynamics to a new generation.
The Concept CLA-Class represents the exciting road ahead for Mercedes-Benz as it transitions to becoming an electric-first company. This stylish concept car shows that luxury, innovation and sustainability will remain core values for the brand’s forthcoming models.
