Rivian Announces Second Recall in Weeks!

Only 30 Vehicles are affecte by this recall.

Rivian recently announced a recall impacting 30 vehicles manufactured between October 28, 2022, and January 21, 2023. The issue stems from potentially loose fasteners that attach the side curtain airbags to the roof rails. During assembly, some of these fasteners may not have been adequately tightened, which could lead to detachment and hinder the performance of the side curtain airbags.

The investigation was launched on February 16, 2023, after Rivian discovered a vehicle with improperly fastened side curtain airbag fasteners. Through manufacturing data analysis, the company identified 30 vehicles that could be affected. Rivian will either replace or tighten the fasteners as necessary.

Owners of the affected vehicles have been notified through email and Rivian’s app, with mailed notifications to follow by April 8, 2023. The company will conduct the repairs at no cost to the owners at Rivian service centers or via its mobile service network.

This recall comes on the heels of another issued on February 22, 2023, which involved 12,716 vehicles built between July 2022 and January 2023. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the previous recall addressed a defective sensor in the front passenger seat belt system. This sensor could falsely report as “on” when it was actually “off,” preventing proper deployment of the passenger airbag in the event of a crash.
