Palo Alto, CA – Tesla is preparing to begin deliveries of its long-awaited Cybertruck on November 30, 2023, according to a recent social media announcement. The delivery event, typically involving just a small number of select customers receiving their vehicles, will take place at Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory.
The announcement coincided with Tesla’s release of its third-quarter earnings on October 19, 2023. While the earnings report made no mention of a Cybertruck delivery timeline, it did state that pilot production of the futuristic electric pickup had started at Giga Texas.
Later the same day, Tesla confirmed on social media that November 30 would be the official start date for Cybertruck deliveries.
The angular, stainless-steel Cybertruck was first unveiled in 2019 and has seen its launch pushed back multiple times since. This initial small-scale delivery event will mark the beginning of the scaled-up production and delivery plans for the much-hyped vehicle. With Tesla’s earnings now out and a delivery timeline set, focus will turn to producing and delivering the long-promised Cybertruck to reservation holders.
Leading up to this point, Tesla had initially promised to deliver the Cybertruck to customers in the summer of 2023, and later, in the third quarter, but both deadlines lapsed without the delivery. The company has not disclosed the number of Cybertrucks to be handed over during this event. However, mass production of the vehicle is expected to ramp up in 2024, with the gigafactory having the capacity to produce less than 125,000 Cybertrucks once it reaches mass production—a milestone Musk foresees Tesla hitting in 2025.
Elon Musk has candidly expressed concerns over ramping up Cybertruck’s production. During Tesla’s earnings call, he emphasized the enormous challenges entailed in reaching volume production with the Cybertruck. He noted that it would take about 18 months for the Cybertruck to become cash-flow positive.
Musk hailed the Cybertruck as their “best product ever,” albeit acknowledging the immense work required to reach volume production and maintain affordability. He stressed the innovative essence of the Cybertruck, which entails not just inventing the car but also inventing the way to make the car.
The announcement came after a long wait filled with anticipation and numerous promises over the years. It has been four years since the Cybertruck was unveiled, and the journey towards this point was laden with loads of promises from Tesla’s CEO. The distinctively styled Cybertruck has drawn attention due to its unique design and the anticipation surrounding its release date, which was finally confirmed by Musk during a quarterly statement.
