Tesla has been granted a patent for the unique wheel design of its highly anticipated electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck. The patent, filed in November 2019, has been approved and is valid for 15 years from the date of grant, March 7th, 2023. The patent outlines the ornamental design of the Cybertruck’s wheel, featuring a polygonal shape with flat panels, with chief designer Franz Von Holzhausen listed as one of the inventors.
The Cybertruck has already caused a stir in the market due to its unconventional features. Its sharp, angular design and stainless steel body are a departure from the traditional curves and contours of most pickup trucks available today.
The Cybertruck’s wheel design is yet another unique feature that complements the vehicle’s overall look, providing a sleek and futuristic appearance.
The patent describes the wheel as having “a series of flat panels arranged in a polygonal shape,” with “each flat panel having a surface that is flush with an adjacent flat panel.” The design aims to create a continuous surface that is visually striking and aerodynamically efficient.
Tesla recently displayed the most recent design of the Cybertruck, showcasing this wheel design, at their Investor Day event. Low volume production of the Cybertruck is set to begin this year, with high volume production expected to commence next year.
