Tesla has surpassed BMW as the top-selling luxury car brand in the US in 2022, according to data collected by Automotive News. The company sold an estimated 491,000 vehicles in the US, while BMW shifted 332,388 cars, trailing by over 150,000 units. This marks the first time an American brand has led the luxury sales charts in almost a quarter century.
This illustrates the ongoing and increasing demand for Tesla cars, despite concerns from Wall Street about potential demand issues. It’s worth noting that Tesla reported a total of 1.3 million vehicle deliveries in 2022, which was 40% more than the previous year. Although this did not reach the company’s initial guidance of 50% year-over-year growth.
BMW remained ahead of Mercedes-Benz in the global standings, but its global sales were down 5.1% overall, compared to Mercedes, which shed just 1% in the same time period.
