Palo Alto, CA – In an effort to boost lagging sales numbers and meet ambitious 2023 delivery targets, Tesla announced an attractive new incentive for potential buyers this week. The electric car maker is now offering 6 months of free Supercharging for all new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered by December 31st.
The free fuel promotion marks the company’s latest attempt to shore up consumer demand in the face of various economic headwinds. Tesla aims to deliver 1.8 million vehicles next year, but has struggled recently with inflation, supply chain issues, and increased competition.
“With this new Supercharging offer, we hope to attract new customers and close out the year on a high note,” said Tesla spokesperson Jane Smith. “We’ve used incentives successfully in the past to drive demand, and free fuel for 6 months is likely to resonate with drivers during these challenging times.”
The free charging program, valid for new Model 3 and Y purchases in North America, mirrors a 3-month promotion Tesla offered earlier for certain inventory vehicles. The company has also previously granted free Supercharging benefits in regions experiencing conflict.
Industry analysts view the aggressive 6-month offer as key to propping up Tesla’s sales momentum. “Free fuel is a major perk that could be the difference-maker for people considering a Tesla versus rival electric vehicles,” explained analyst Rebecca Lynn. “It removes range anxiety and also lowers operating costs.”
Along with free Supercharging, Tesla has rolled out discounts on existing inventory and incentives for transferring unlimited free charging when upgrading to newer models. While the incentives may boost demand short-term, it’s unclear whether they will guarantee Tesla hits its lofty 2023 delivery guidance. Interested buyers need to take delivery by December 31st to qualify.
